Structural Elements and New Sementic Elements

Structural elements are the elements which used to provide the structure to a webpage. So you can say that all the elements in HTMl are structural element. These structural elements can be divided into non-sementic elements i.e. <h1>, <br>, <div> etc; and sementic element i.e. <form>, <table>, <img> etc.

 

enlightenedSemantic elements are the elements with some meaning. Name of Sementic elements explain their meaning to developer and browser.

 

New Sementic Elements introduced in HTML5-

<header> This tag used to define the header of the webpage.

<footer> This tag used to define the footer of the webpage.

<main> This tag used to define the main content of webpage.

<article> This tag used to define a article in webpage.

<aside> This tag is used to define the content apart from webpage's main content.

<section> This tag used to define the section in the webpage.

<mark> This tag used to define the heighlighted text.

<nav> This tag used to define the navigation links in the webpage.

<summary> This tag used to define a visible heading for a <details> element

<figure> This tag used to define self-contained content, like photos, code listings, etc.

<figcaption> This tag used to define the caption for <figure> element.

<time> This tag used to define the date and time.

<details> This tag used to define additional details that the user can view or hide.

 

New Structural Elements introduced in HTML5-

<menuitem> This tag used to define the command or menu item which can be invocked from popup.

<meter> This tag used to define a scalar measurement within a known range.

<progress> This tag used to define the progress of a task.

<rp> This tag used to define what to show in browsers if the browser do not support ruby annotations.

<rt> This tag used to explanation or pronunce the characters for East Asian typography.

<ruby> This tag used to define the ruby annotation for East Asian typography.

<wbr> This tag used to define the possible line-break.

<bdi> This tag used to define the part of text that might be formatted in a different direction from other text.

<dialog> This tag used to define the dialog box or window in webpage
