Placeholder vs Value

While working on form, use of placeholder or value for input text is a good practice. It help user to know about what he need to do for particular field.

See below syntax for placeholder-

<input placeholder="Enter Your Name" />

See below syntax for value-

<input value="Enter Your Name" />

Both, placeholder and value are printing same text in input box. But both have below differences-

  • The value in input box will remain same on click and user will have to remove the text (hold by value) to enter his name. But in case of placeholder, user will not require to remove any text. He will click and start typing.
  • Value's text seems little dark then placeholder.
  • If user submit the form without editing, value will be submitted while placeholder will never submitted.
